Growing up as a dark girl, I faced lots of criticism about the fairness of my skin. Many times, I was referenced as "Pretty for a dark skin girl," and have often times heard others say "she's pretty to be dark-skin." I have been compared to every "black" thing possible: black as a tire, blacker than black, so black I’m purple, black as tar, burnt, and much more as if my complexion defined my beauty.
I created "Ms. Berry" because beauty is much greater than a color or complexion. But, if I could rank beauty on a color range, purple would be my choice. Purple is a color of royalty.
